Experienced support for game teams

How can we help?

Flexible technical support for game teams, shaped around what you need.

Hands-on Engineering, Prototyping & R&D

Need experienced help turning an idea into a working, shippable part of your game?

Show more details

Bring Garden Shed Games in to take ownership of a gameplay feature, a prototype or R&D project, a difficult technical system, or the foundations needed as your game and team grow.

We can work alongside your team or lead delivery directly, bringing senior judgement and hands-on implementation from the first decision through to a robust, shippable result.

If you need extra capacity for a milestone, a growth phase, or a period of change, we can plug in quickly and leave the project stronger than we found it.

Unity Performance Optimisation & Technical Rescue

Is your Unity game struggling to hit performance targets, or has a technical problem started blocking progress?

Show more details

We diagnose the issues that stop a Unity project performing or moving forward - from frame rate, memory, loading, and stability problems to difficult systems and unclear technical priorities. Using profiling and practical investigation, we'll find the root causes and focus on the fixes that will make the biggest difference.

Technical rescue is not only about code. We can also help steady delivery, improve development workflows, and establish clear next steps, so your team can solve the immediate problem and keep building with confidence.

Technical Audits & Independent Reviews

Need an independent view of your game's technology before making an important decision?

Show more details

We review your code, architecture, tools, infrastructure, and working processes to build a clear picture of your project's technical health. You'll get practical findings: what is working well, what may create risk, and where to focus first.

Useful before a major milestone, a publishing or investment conversation, team growth, or a new phase of development. We'll provide a focused written review with clear recommendations, so you can make the next decision with confidence.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us a little about your project and we'll work out the right next step together.

Selected experience

Experience that helps game teams grow.

Before Garden Shed Games, I built software, systems, and engineering capability across games and interactive products. These are a few examples of the work that informs how I support game teams today.

Enginefall multiplayer game environment

Red Rover Interactive

Building multiplayer backend and tools capability

Established the team and systems behind a large-scale multiplayer game.

Show more about backend and tools capability for Enginefall

Enginefall needed robust server infrastructure and the internal tools to support a growing game team. I built and led the Backend and Tools function, helping establish the technical foundations needed to deliver and operate a large-scale live-service multiplayer game.

The work combined team-building with the practical systems a multiplayer game needs to keep evolving.

The Hungry Horde game artwork

Nosebleed Interactive

Building an indie studio's technical foundations

Grew the technology and engineering capability of an indie studio.

Show more about growing Nosebleed Interactive's technical capability

Alongside developing multi-platform games and custom engine technology, I helped shape technical architecture, hire and mentor engineers, and build the capability the studio needed as it grew.

The result was a strong technical foundation for a small, creative studio working across multiple projects.

Avakin Life social virtual world

Lockwood Publishing

Turning hours of content work into minutes

Cut a core content workflow from hours to minutes.

Show more about improving content workflows for Avakin Life

I led a redesign of the internal content-creation tooling, making a major workflow dramatically faster for the team. I also contributed to server-side asset processing technology that enabled user-generated content as well as performance improvments on lower-end devices.

Good tools and well-chosen technical improvements multiply the impact of a team - particularly when a small group needs to do more with its time.

Vortic virtual gallery experience

Hedgehog Lab

Building and leading VR/XR capability

Built and led a new VR/XR capability.

Show more about building and leading VR/XR capability at Hedgehog Lab

At Hedgehog Lab, I built and led the VR/XR capability while continuing to contribute hands-on across VR/XR and full-stack development projects. I hired, managed, and mentored developers, worked closely with clients, scoped projects, and set clear roadmaps for delivery.

The role meant moving comfortably between technical leadership, client collaboration, and practical engineering - helping multidisciplinary teams turn a wide range of project ideas into delivered products.

VR surgical training simulation

FundamentalVR

Technical leadership for VR surgical training

Led engineering for a complex multi-user VR training platform.

Show more about Technical leadership at FundamentalVR

FundamentalVR brought together engineers, 3D artists, and medical experts to build realistic, medically accurate, multi-user surgical simulations. I provided technical leadership across disciplines and worked on peer-to-peer networking that allowed participants to share an interactive training environment.

This work brought technical leadership and hands-on engineering together to deliver a complex, cross-disciplinary product.

About Garden Shed Games

Grown for small teams and indies.

Garden Shed Games was created to help game-makers navigate the technical complexity of turning a great idea into a great game - from the first technical decisions to the teams, systems, and plans that support it.

Small studios, startups, and independent developers are the teams I most enjoy working with. My 15-year career has been shaped by working in environments where people wear many hats; I love their enthusiasm, creativity, and the way each person can make meaningful decisions and see the direct impact of their work. Every project has its own character, and helping a small team bring something new and interesting to life is what keeps me excited about games.

That is why Garden Shed Games combines big-picture technical leadership with a willingness to get into the detail. I can help set direction, build the foundations for a growing team, and then get my hands dirty when a difficult problem needs solving or an important piece of work needs to move forward.

Have a game in the works? I'd love to hear about it.
